Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. (hereinafter PEW) will create a "space of 'Design' and 'Comfort/Eco' technology living in harmony" based on the design theme of "(standard)3- smart" and exhibit it in Brera area in Milan during the Milano Salone in April 2010. Visitors to the Panasonic booth can experience the "comfort and eco-friendliness" realized by smart control of a wide variety of products unique to PEW in a space of impactful design. The architect and designer Martino Berghinz turns the entire hall into a "cave" which used to be one of the dwelling places of mankind. 10 products including those devised in collaboration with Naoto Fukasawa will be sprinkled in this cave to create a comfortable space.

Exhibition concept 2010: (standard)3-smart

"(standard)3" has been the design concept of PEW (design team) since 2008 to express three-dimensional presentation of PEW's wide variety of standard products. This year, under the new theme of "smart", an attempt to smartly control the 3D space is added to present a smart lifestyle where "design" and "comfort/eco" technology can live in harmony in a cave-inspired space.

PEW is engaged in development of housing infrastructure which enables total energy control throughout the house from power generators, wiring products to home equipment in addition to energy-conserving product line-ups such as lighting products and all-electric home facilities. Furthermore, the energy management principles of the Panasonic Group to Create, Store and Save energy will becomes feasible by PEW's HEMS*2 -driven "Lifinity Eco-Management System"*3. These "comfort/eco" product families will also be exhibited in this new value-added exhibition space.

  • * 1: LED and other lighting products (some sample only), modular kitchen (sample only), toilet ("New A la Uno" to be released in March 2010), air circulation panel ("Aero-washer" to be released in March 2010) ,structurally strong surface material ("Kenaboard"), massage sofa (sample only), information equipments (some sample only) etc.
  • * 2: HEMS = Home Energy Management System
  • * 3: Housing equipment networking system (a system to assist energy conservation by networking electrical & information-processing home equipment for the purpose of monitoring power usage via the information board and the power distribution board) marketed mainly to new houses to "visualize power usage": launched in 2007.

"Cave"

When I heard that this year's exhibition of PEW would present high-technology products in consideration of environment conservation and smart use of energy, I thought of the very old times when mankind's history had just started and our ancestors were living in caves.  People were responsible for their own lives and lived each day making use of a few tools and techniques. They lived a sustainable life in harmony with the nature.  I wanted to use the "cave" where people used to live as a metaphor of our comfortable living space for this exhibition.
