Hankyu Corporation decided to adopt  EVERLEDS LED lighting products of Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as PEW) for its new Settsu-Shi Station on the Kyoto Line. Settsu-Shi Station located between Shojaku Station and Minami Ibaraki Station is the first 'carbon neutral station'-to-be in Japan, which is slated for commercial operation on Sunday, March 14, 2010. This decision will make the station the first full-fledged all-LED(*2) installation example among all railway stations in Japan.

A total of 343 LED lighting products will be installed at Settsu-Shi Station according to the current plan, including the platform area, waiting rooms, ticket gate areas, underground passageways and restrooms.

Particularly for the platform areas prone to heavy winds and rains, PEW exercised its technological capabilities and knowhow to develop line-shaped LED lighting products in response to user needs. The product has been installed at Minamikata Station on the Kyoto Line with a similar linear platform to undergo field tests since October,2009 to verify that it offers adequate brightness to customers without affecting the train service.

Standard LED base lights, LED downlights and guide lights will be installed in other areas.

Hankyu Corporation plans to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions attributable to the operation of Settsu-Shi Station by approximately 51 percent through various environmental efforts, 13 percent out of which is estimated to be achieved by adopting all-LED lighting throughout the station building. The emissions difficult to be reduced directly is also planned to be compensated by buying emission rights and through other means to achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions attributable to the station.

PEW will continue to strengthen its activities to make LED lighting solution proposals for transport systems and public facilities including railway station buildings, railroad crossings and street lights.
